Frown lines, also known as 11s, are the vertical lines that develop between the eyebrows over time. They’re caused by overactive facial muscles that are used while making expressions, like furrowing your brow. Frown lines may be deeper or develop earlier for some people based on factors like genetics, sun exposure, stress, and smoking. Non-invasive skin treatments, such as chemical peels, can often help diminish the appearance of frown lines, but these solutions do not address what is causing the lines to develop.
One of the most effective ways to treat frown lines is with BOTOX® injections. As a neurotoxin, BOTOX Cosmetic relaxes the overactive muscles that are creating the frown lines. As these muscles relax, the lines are softened and become less obvious when the face is resting. Although BOTOX injections are a temporary solution, lasting about three to four months, with repeated treatments, the solution can help slow or prevent the development of frown lines in the future.
